Creating Inclusive Programs
“But as it is, there are many parts, yet one body. (1 Corinthians 12:20)”
Shepherd Educational Consulting seeks to support and equip dioceses and schools with the necessary tools to welcome students of all ability levels. This is done through a targeted three step model based on the NCEA White Paper on Exceptional Learners (Boyle & Bernards, 2017):
Knowledge -Providing school leaders and staff with the specific knowledge of special education policies and procedures necessary to welcome students. Additionally, this includes sharing current best practices in the field of special education.
Skills - Working with school staff to develop and implement research and evidenced based practices for meeting the needs of students. Moreover, working with administrators to develop the skills necessary to create different service models for the students including the last restrictive environment.
Dispositions - Assisting with fostering the dispositions necessary for working with students of all ability levels. This requires engaging in self-reflection to address the decision making process to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
